Highlights
Zim is one of the world’s largest container shipping and door-to-door service companies. It is diversified over major global trade routes, including trans-Pacific, Atlantic and Asia-Europe, and has also established a strong presence in China and the rest of Asia, the world's fastest growing market.
Israel Corp. acquired a controlling stake in Zim in 2004 when the Israeli Government completed the privatization of the company and Israel Corp. acquired an additional 48.6% of Zim's equity, thereby increasing its ownership to approximately 98%. It has since increased its holding in the company to approximately 99%.
Pursuant to its original strategic plan, ZIM planned large increases in 2009–2012, both in its shipping capacity as well as in the quantities shipped. Due to current global market conditions in general and conditions in the container shipping sector specifically, ZIM prepared and is currently implementing a plan that addresses the current market conditions. It is also currently working towards cost cutting, operational changes and structural changes with respect to operation of the ships and the overall shipping capacity. Further details about the company's results and operations can also be found in Israel Corp's periodic financial statements.
